Hi Todd,

There are no estrogen therapies that I am aware of. Testosterone is used as an intervention. This is highly controversial. In the opinion of many clinicians and theorists, regarding autistics, hormone intervention is dangerous and inappropriate.

My nephew is autistic, and I, as a result, have researched the topic informally for family knowledge. My comment certainly is less scientific (more observational than anything else)...but from what I have read, autism strikes more boys than girls (first clue that cause may be linked to the hormones)...I have read that autistics have the "perfect male" brain (everything is compartmentalized)...autistics have trouble with their communication skills and interpersonal relationships (again, females tend to be more communicative (verbal) and relationship driven in their day-to-day)...has their been any widespread studies/research/treatments on using estrogen therapy on autistics? Just curious...for my 8 year old nephew, I have a feeling my brother (his dad) would give anything a reasonable try to being his son back from wherever he is.
